Deadpool & Wolverine Break Box Office Records in North America

Info In Movie News | The latest movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Deadpool & Wolverine, has reportedly achieved the highest opening weekend box office of all time for an R-rated movie. According to a Variety report on Sunday (28/7), the movie garnered $205 million, or approximately Rp3.3 trillion at the North American box office during its debut weekend.

Deadpool & Wolverine broke an extraordinary record by collecting over $650 million, compared to the previous record of Deadpool (2016) made by $132 million, whereas, Deadpool 2 (2018) gained only $125 million which took the second position and was dropped to the third. Opening weekend reinforced the notion of an insane profit, and even drove Inside Out 2 to the rear, getting it as the first weekend movie of 2024.

It's important to note that the opening weekend made the film the eighth most successful debut ever, so it went over the record of Black Panther (2018) which was sixth and got after Jurassic World (2015). Also, it has become the ninth movie to join the so-called "200 million club" in just three days.

On the international scale, Deadpool & Wolverine also garnered substantial revenue amassing $233.3 million, and with that, the worldwide opening weekend figure went up to $438 million. This listing has raised the action up to the number six position in the top-grossing movies of 2024.

Furthermore, the financial success of the film in the box office is way above its alleged production budget of nearly $200 million, as well as its advertising and promotion costs, which were an estimated $100 million.

Notably, Deadpool & Wolverine's impact contributed to a new MCU record, making it the first franchise to surpass a total global box office revenue of $30 billion.

Directed by Shawn Levy and with a script from Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Zeb Wells (they previously collaborated on Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), Deadpool 3 stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the two leads. The film also stars Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Dafne Keen and a few other surprise actors.

Also, Deadpool & Wolverine is the first MCU movie to have an R-rating whereas all previous releases carry the PG-13 rating.
