Info In Movie News | The Russo Brothers (the director team of Joe and Anthony Russo) have officially been hired to direct both of the forthcoming Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars.
It was revealed by Marvel studios president Kevin Feige displaywhen to the san diego comic con (sdcc) on Saturday, July 27 local time.
Anthony Russo said in a statement they could not wait to move forward with everyone from the incredible and oftentimes emotionally exhausting four films.
The Russo Brothers have previously directed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), so they're not unfamiliar with the World Outside the World. Their involvement, which began with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014) and continued with “Captain America: Civil War” (2016). They went on to helm the two most recent Avengers films: “Infinity War” in 2018 and “Endgame” in 2019.
Now, the onus has been handed over to Joe and Anthony Russo to direct “Avengers 5” and “6.” “Avengers: Doomsday” is tentatively scheduled for release in May 2026, with “Avengers: Secret Wars” set for May 2027.
While at SDCC, Marvel Studios announced a name change for the previously announced film, "The Kang Dynasty." Initially centered on Kang, the main villain played by Jonathan Majors, the studio ended its contract with Majors following accusations of violence and abuse against his former partner. The new character, Doctor Doom, is meant to add a different flavor to the saga and reintroduce Robert Downey Jr. in the role of the villain but with a slightly different shade.
Also, “Secret Wars” is a serialized comic by Marvel Comics first published from 1984 to 1985. The title eventually became a new story arc for the comic, published in 2015.
This also specifically confirmed the involvement of Fantastic Four in the Avengers 5 and 6 battles. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play the quartet.
