Infoinmovie | Ryan Gosling in talks to lead upcoming Shawn Levy Star Wars movie. This one is said to be a standalone feature not related to the Skywalker saga, including the franchise’s most recent offering, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
The actor, who has starred in dramas such as Barbie and La La Land, is attached to a Jonathan Tropper (The Adam Project)-penned script.
Shawn Levy is developing this new project since 2022, according to Variety on January 21. Specifics of the film have not yet been released.
Gosling's involvement could potentially speed up development, moving it closer to the top of the priority list for Lucasfilm's Star Wars slate.
This will come before other projects first revealed at Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, involving directors James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Dave Filoni.
That means Levy’s movie will come shortly after The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first brand new Star Wars film greenlit in over five years, which is due for release in theaters May 22, 2026.
If he were to accept this gig, it would represent a significant turning point in Gosling’s career; he’s consciously steered away from major franchise work, like so many other Canadian actors.
Ryan Gosling's filmography would get a substantial boost in the coming years in the Universe of Star Wars. More recently, he served behind the scenes as a producer on Wolf Man.
He’ll also star in the film Project Hail Mary in 2026 and be executive producer on the to-be-released film The Actor.
Gosling is also set to headline the science fiction thriller “Project Hail Mary,” directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, which is based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel.
During his career, Ryan Gosling has been awarded two Golden Globe Awards, for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy in 2017 for his performance in La La Land.
