Synopsis: The Wolverine (2013)

The movie start in 1945 amidst the concluding phase of World War II in a POW camp near Nagasaki, Japan. As American aircraft hover overhead, primed to drop a nuclear bomb, a young Japanese soldier named Yashida sets captive American troops free, one of whom is Logan (Wolverine). Logan, although freed, opts not to run and instead directs Yashida to seek refuge in a well, using a metal door to shield him as the bomb explodes. Logan survives the devastation thanks to his ability to self-heal, leaving a significant impression on Yashida.

In the movie's present day narrative, a secluded Logan leads a solitary life in the Yukon wilderness, haunted by traumatic nightmares of his past, especially his lover, Jean Grey, whom he had been forced to kill. Unexpectedly, Logan is found by a proficient Japanese assassin named Yukio, with the ability to predict death, who tells him that Yashida, now an affluent and elderly industrialist, is on his deathbed and wants to bid him farewell.

After some hesitation, Logan sets off for Japan, where he is introduced to Yashida's immediate family. Yashida, who now owns an extensive technology corporation, proposes a deal that could allow him to acquire Logan's healing ability, enhancing his life span while rendering Logan mortal, but Logan rejects the proposition perceiving his healing ability as a curse, not a blessing.

Unfortunately, Logan is injected with a parasite by Dr. Green or Viper, a mutant working under Yashida, which eventually tampers with his regenerative abilities. Following Yashida's death announcement, Logan begins to experience intense pain and his healing processes slow down noticeably.

During Yashida’s funeral, Mariko, Yashida's granddaughter, is attacked and kidnapped by Yakuza henchmen. A weakened Logan fends off many enemies, but is shot multiple times and his wounds stop healing instantly. They manage to escape, with the help of Harada, a skilled archer who is loyal to Mariko.

Logan and Mariko find shelter in Nagasaki, where their bond deepens. During their stay, Mariko discloses her father Shingen’s conspiracy to murder her in order to take over Yashida's empire, and Logan shares his past traumas and nightmares of Jean Grey with her.

Yukio meanwhile envisions Logan's impending death and rushes to his aid. They learn that Mariko has been abducted by the Yakuza and Harada’s ninja clan. After confronting Noburo, he confesses to the conspiracy with Shingen to assassinate Mariko.

Affecting his return to Yashida’s mansion, Logan stumbles upon an X-ray scan showing a mechanical parasite attached to his heart. Despite severe pain, Logan extracts the parasite, after which Yashida's son, Shingen, attacks him. Just in time, Yukio steps in and fights Shingen off, until Logan regains consciousness and engages Shingen in a sword duel, killing him.

In the concluding battle, Logan arrives at a high-tech facility where Mariko is held captive. Logan gets captured by Harada, who believes that his act would ensure Mariko's safety. Viper showcases her real mutant form, revealing a giant adamantium suit capable of extracting Logan's healing factor.

Logan battles the Silver Samurai who manages to cut off Logan's adamantium claws, exposing the bone claws. Yashida, who had faked his own death, emerges as the individual pulling all the strings. He starts draining Logan's healing factor, reversing his age rapidly.

In a desperate act, Mariko attacks Yashida with Wolverine’s severed adamantium claws, providing Logan the opportunity to escape his grasp. He regenerates his bone claws and kills Yashida. In the meantime, Yukio defeats Viper by strangling her with a cable.

In the aftermath, Mariko takes charge of her family's corporation and Yukio joins Logan, proclaiming herself his bodyguard, as he leaves Japan. Asked by Yukio about his plans, Logan responds ambiguously saying, "I don't know."

In a scene after the credits, two years later, Magneto warns Logan of an impending mutant threat at an airport. Just as Logan gets ready for a showdown, Professor X appears, alive and fine, hinting at a greater danger that looms ahead, alluding to the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
