The original release date of the Mojang Studio game was 2011 when Minecraft was a pioneering game out of the visionary mind of the man Markus "Notch" Persson and it was made a feature movie by him. The initial platform of the game was a sandbox that allowed the players to create their own worlds, using the available blocks in as many ways as their imagination would take them in the creation of the limited number of objects in the game.
Minecraft was officially recognized as the most sold game of all time in 2023 and in that year, the game had sold over 300 million copies, as cited by Radio Times. This led to Microsoft purchasing Mojang in 2014 for as much as $2.5 billion. Today, Minecraft is no longer a video game as it is a universally recognized cultural phenomenon in education, the arts, and a vibrant creative community.
From Delays to the Big Screen
The movie was initially intended to be released in 2022, but was later postponed due to the onset of the COVID-19 virus. Furthermore, production was delayed in 2023 when the SAG-AFTRA strike took place. However, as indicated by Radio Times, the filming was finished back in April 2024, hence the movie is still on course for its 2025 launch.
Director Jared Hess encountered the high expectations regarding the project. "We knew this means different things to so many people"." Whatever our first choice was, we actually experienced alled opinions between all kinds," Hess told IGN.
