Info in Movie News | Spin Master Entertainment has announced its partnership with esteemed director Brad Peyton to take on the task of breathing new life into the popular Bakugan toy line with a live-action film adaptation. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter on February 6, the announcement follows the successful transition of the toy line into a well-received anime adventure TV series ripe with potential for further expansion.
Known for his creative storytelling and dynamic direction, Peyton will write, direct, and produce the adaptation, drawing from his impressive experience within the industry. His credits include directing and producing the Netflix movie Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez and Simu Liu, which received significant acclamation. Still, perhaps Peyton is best known for his work in the action genre, delivering notable blockbusters such as Rampage and San Andreas, both featuring Dwayne Johnson.
Joining Peyton at the heart of this project is Lindsay Harbert, who will help flesh out a screenplay for the Bakugan movie. Together, they will engage a global audience with a strategic game-infused storyline, an essential characteristic of the original Bakugan franchise rooted in a Japanese anime show.
In Peyton's words, “Bakugan is ready for the film treatment, and I'm thrilled to be the one to bring it to the big screen for the very first time. With Lindsay and the Spin Master team alongside me, we're excited to build a hit franchise with global appeal.” Peyton defines the movie as a “must-see film event” that will encompass the epic world of Bakugan.
Bakugan, first launched in 2007, quickly established success as a toy line and anime adventure series, spawning gaming spin-offs and digital content. To date, the franchise's toy market has generated over $1 billion in sales worldwide. With this live action adaptation, Spin Master Entertainment hopes to reignite the Bakugan mania that once raged amongst fans.
“As fans who were part of its initial craze now enter adulthood, we are thrilled to be working with accomplished filmmaking talent like Brad to reimagine Bakugan in live action,” expressed Jennifer Dodge, Spin Master president. The company sees this project as an opportunity to not only cater to the nostalgia of existing fans but to also introduce the franchise to a new generation of audiences.
This live-action Bakugan production is set to be an exciting addition to Spin Master Entertainment's existing repertoire of toy-to-film adaptations, which includes the third film in the Paw Patrol franchise set to release in 2026. With Brad Peyton steering this project, audiences around the world can look forward to an enthralling cinematic experience that promises excitement, nostalgia, and innovation.
