"Shogun" Season 2 hasn't been officially given the go-ahead by FX as yet. However, those both behind and in front of the camera have already begun discussing various aspects of the 17th-century drama.

In January 2025, Rachel Kondo, the show's creator and executive producer, stated that new season development was "in progress," but remained reluctant to share more information.

"We're still trying. We haven't given up, but I can't divulge more details," she said.

Justin Marks, who is Kondo's husband as well as the creator and executive producer of "Shogun", noted that they have approximately six weeks left until the end of their writing room.

In October 2024, Marks signed a comprehensive TV agreement with FX to help develop new network projects. The contract also includes a possible new season of "Shogun" with Kondo, to be co-produced with the Clavell family.

At the 2025 Golden Globes, "Shogun" won four accolades, including best television series and best TV drama actor for Sanada. The show also received a total of 18 awards at the 2024 Emmy's, an unprecedented achievement for any television season.

The television show "Shogun" is an adaptation of the novel, "Shogun", written by James Clavell. This novel was initially published in 1975 and was later transformed into a television series in 1980.
