Info in Movie News | Netflix officially announced that the martial arts action game Sifu will become a feature film on its streaming platform. Chad Stahelski, who directed the John Wick Franchise, will take on projects as a producer with his team at 87Eleven Entertainment and Story Kitchen. The Maze Runner's T.S. Nowlin is set to write the screenplay.
According to Deadline on February 20, Sifu is set to be produced by Chad Stahelski, Jason Spitz and Alex Young at 87Eleven Entertainment. Story Kitchen is also involved, with Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg as producers. Timothy I. Stevenson, Elena Sandoval and Jeff Ludwig will serve as executive producers, along with representatives from Sloclap, including Jordan Layani and Pierre Tarno.
Stahelski is no stranger to adapting video game properties for movies, having already helmed Ghost of Tsushima (Sony/PlayStation), and is attached to Rainbow Six (also with Michael B. Jordan). Now, Tomb Raider, Just Cause and It Takes Two studio Story Kitchen has joined the project, adding even more heft.
Outside of the film, there is Sifu, a game by Sloclap that was 2022, that centers on a martial arts student attempting to avenge his master’s death. With the help of a magical talisman, he can resurrect whenever he dies — but he ages as he does. The older he is, the more intense his attacks, but the worse his health. If he comes to a specific age, he will die forever, and that will be the end of his journey.
Within its first three weeks of release, Sifu sold over 1 million copies, solidifying its popularity among action game enthusiasts.
