Synopsis: Pirates of the Caribbean 3 At World's End (2007)

The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy — the third movie was called At World’s End — centers on Captain Jack Sparrow’s pals as they undertake a dangerous mission to save him from Davy Jones’ Locker. Simultaneously, Lord Beckett tightens his control over the oceans by sending Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman to exterminate pirates. The Brethren Court must work together and bring this warfare to the piracy forces with the East India Trading Co. in the fight of their lives!

The East India Trading Company runs roughshod over Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander), solidifying his control of the Caribbean, decimating anyone who retains even a hint of piracy in Port Royal. Now he has the feared Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) through his heart, which he uses to sink pirate ships. The pirates left must convene at Shipwreck Cove for a council— the Brethren Court.

Meanwhile, Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), ressurected by Tia Dalma, enlists the help of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and the crew of the Black Pearl to save Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from Davy Jones’ Locker. One has been handed down by a fallen crew of crew members, and their travels bring them to Singapore, where they enlist the help of Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat), a pirate ruler and keeper of navigational charts that will take them to the afterlife.

At first, Sao Feng refuses to help them, but after an attack of Royal Guards he relents. Will Turner negotiates with him in private, offering Jack as a trade for the Black Pearl, the ship that Will intends to use to rescue his father, Bootstrap Bill Turner (Stellan Skarsgård), a crew member on the Flying Dutchman. With new maps and their new ship, the crew goes to Davy Jones’ Locker and they retrieve Jack, who thinks at first they are just figments. Along the way they meet lost souls, including Governor Swann (Jonathan Pryce), who reveals that the only way to kill Jones is to stab his detached heart, binding the attacker to the Dutchman. As Tia Dalma explains in more detail, Jones originally had a job delivering souls to the afterlife, but was transformed into a monster because of his betrayal of Calypso, the sea goddess.

The translation of the charts unleashes something and Jack's crew inadvertently stumbles into a meeting of the Brethren Court. The Black Pearl has made a detour to an island for supplies, and is ambushed by Sao Feng’s men. This resulted in Will's secret pact to deliver Sao Feng to them in return for his hand as well as Jack's capture. Jack is released only on the condition that he lead Beckett to Shipwreck Cove, where he can either trap the pirate lords or start an outright war and let Beckett’s fleet eliminate them courtesy of the Dutchman.

Noticing that Beckett is not going to keep the terms agreed, Sao Feng allies with Barbossa, offering them the Black Pearl if Elizabeth goes with him. Pushed to the edge of despair, Elizabeth agrees, but the Flying Dutchman attacks again, mortally wounding Feng. When he dies, he names Elizabeth as his successor, making her Pirate Lord of the South China Sea. Meanwhile, Jack breaks free of his imprisonment by Beckett and reunites with the Pearl crew.

The new Pirate Lord, Elizabeth, who insists that they fight after some debate(among the Brethren Court at Shipwreck Cove) about fighting Beckett, or fleeing. Jack’s dad, keeper of the Pirate Code, explains that only a duly selected Pirate King can wage war. “Jack’s surprise vote for Elizabeth makes her Pirate King and for war.

It follows a wild chain of events where Jack is in competition with Jones for his heart, Will proposes to Elizabeth, Barbossa marries them as they are fighting, Will becomes the new Captain of the Dutchman after being mortally wounded by Jones. With their strength combined, they defeat Beckett’s ship, the Endeavour, leading to Beckett’s death and the withdrawal of East India Trading Company’s fleet.

Will and Elizabeth can now have their one day together before he leaves, because piracy is saved! Elizabeth eventually has their son, Henry Turner. Adrift once more, Jack learns that Barbossa has stolen away with the Black Pearl and he resolves to resume his quest for the Fountain of Youth using Sao Feng’s stolen maps. It ends with Elizabeth and Henry watching Will return from the Flying Dutchman after 10 years sailing the seas.
