Info in Movie News | Hollywood A-lister Will Smith recently sparked excitement when he teased the creative possibility of a sequel to the 2008 superhero flick, Hancock, during a surprise live stream on Twitch with xQc. The actor even suggested that young starlet Zendaya might potentially have a significant role in the yet-to-be-confirmed project.
The original Hancock, directed by Peter Berg and penned by Vince Gilligan and Vy Vincent Ngo, starred Smith as the title character, a reckless, amnesiac, alcoholic superhero wrestling with his past. With a cast including Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman, and Eddie Marsan, the film has been rumored to have its sequel in the pipeline almost since its release.
Berg, in a 2009 MTV News interview, had initially shared plans of Smith and Theron reprising their roles, stating, "Everybody's going to come back for a sequel." However, in 2012, in a conversation with Comicbookmovie.com, he revealed that the project's progression was "a question of timing."
He commented, "We've been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva goldman and myself. We’re all interested, but we just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time… We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for a sequel — and Will Smith actually had the idea — so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of timing."
Though not much was discussed about the sequel in recent years, Theron in 2020 showed her willingness to return to the franchise. During an interview with ComicBook, the actor said, "You know, for a while we [talked about a sequel],” Theron acknowledged, “I think closer to when the movie came out, but not in recent years, no. We’ll be super heroes with our walkers, you know. And I’ll still go! I’ll still make that movie, I would do it in a heartbeat.”
Evidently, Smith's suggestion that Zendaya could be part of this potential sequel has added to the anticipation. But with no official confirmation, fans can only hope that this superhero saga will continue to captivate audiences with its distinctive comedic edge and dynamic character arcs.
