Info in >Movie News | Mortal Kombat 2 comes on the showcase screen on Mortal Kombat 2, set to hit theaters on October 24, 2024. It is promised that the film will be an intense high-lively action mixed with a lot of unusual twists. One of the things incredible in the list is the comeback of the characters who were death in the 2021 film. Among those figures are Kano (Josh Lawson) and Kung Lao (Max Huang). But how exactly are they coming back?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon shed light on how the upcoming sequel will explore NetherRealm, a dark dimension within the franchise’s mythology that allows souls to return from the dead. With the game series already establishing resurrection as a recurring theme, the film will lean into supernatural elements to justify these comebacks.
"We've killed several characters in the first movie, but in Mortal Kombat, death isn't always the end. The NetherRealm plays a huge role in how some fighters return," Boon explained.
Though some of the characters will return, they are not bound to be the same as they were before. The implication is that Kano might get a bit darker after coming back from the dead – "I can tell you that, for sure, Kano will be totally transformed, but in a very different way than before," kind of transformation, Josh Lawson said.
In the first and last sentences, fans are led to wonder about the new Quan Chi (Damon Herriman) and the 'thief' Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) - Shang Tsung (Chin Han). The latter duo are again the villains, and their cunning deception provides the setting - the tournament is the most brutal of all in Mortal Kombat and this monster faces the loss of his empire associated with it.
Fans may anticipate a thrilling Sidward vs the Spiderman duel, too, which will be played out by Sanada and Taslim. The old war between the two will resume albeit this time with a bit more of the supernatural dimension.
Sit tight as we will be discussing all the necessary details. We should recall that NetherRealm is one of the sequel's central parts. Also, we are looking forward to the release of the action-packed movie "Mortal Kombat 2" in cinemas this year. Will the new fighters take back their former place and prove that they still got it, or will they face an even bigger trouble than before? Witness the October rise!
