Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, X-Men Officially Join

Info in Movie News | Marvel Studios have just made waves across the internet by releasing the cast for Avengers: Doomsday. Through their official social media live stream, one by one, the big name was introduced, and with the seat unfilled, the stars were finally revealed who they were. All the buzz is the most about? The surprising news of Robert Downey Jr. to come back to MCU, nay he is going to be Doctor Doom. This decision has surely caught many fans off guard as Downey also embodies Tony Stark the superhero who sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame.

According to the Collider, the excitement of it is growing up when the list of actors returning is not only from MCU but also from the X-Men universe. Names such as Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) are also confirmed to come back, along with Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and James Marsden (Cyclops). Moreover, Channing Tatum who was previously unable to debut as Gambit could finally play that character after appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine.

What makes it interesting is that Marvel seems to want to ensure all the hero lines are in the big battle too. In addition to mutants, there are also the returnees of the familiar names of MCU like Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Shuri), and Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova). The characters from the upcoming projects such as Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts are also in.

There is still a big question mark over the absence of some big names from this announcement. Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man) have not been mentioned yet (maybe focused in upcoming new Spider-men movie), although there is a high possibility that they could also be present. However, if we are to take it from the statement of Anthony Mackie when promote Captain America: Brave New World which states that the superhero Dr. Strange is absent from the Doomsday event. Even Marvel Studios themselves have teased the fans with an ambiguous answer when Robert Downey Jr. asked, "Is that all?" on Instagram. This was shortly answered with, "There is always room for more." So then, if Doctor Strange is not there, who is gonna be the one who opens a time portal to bring Avengers face to face with X-men, hence making this movie come true. Guessing what will be presented by Russo brothers throughout this bombastic movie franchise is very exciting.

The Avengers: Doomsday will surely be a must-see movie in the Multiverse Saga as Anthony and Joe Russo are back as directors once again after Avengers: Endgame. The shooting process is already confirmed and will be followed by the production of Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled to be released in 2027. With the number of characters that have been announced, it seems like this is just the beginning of the big surprises that Marvel Studios have been preparing.

Get ready, Avengers: Doomsday will hit the big screen on May 1, 2026!
