Info in Movie News | Who doesn't know Scooby-Doo? After more than 50 years of comforting his fans in different animated versions and movies, now the Mystery Inc. gang will be back but this time as a live-action film! Netflix officially announced that they are creating a new series that will take Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred on more updated, modern, and mysterious adventures.
Netflix reports that the show is going to be called "Scooby-Doo." It will be a modern reimagining concept. Thus, the story that the show presents will be more fresh, deeper, and slightly darker compared to the classic version. Showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg will bring us back to the beginning—the formation of Mystery Inc.—a story that has not really been told in detail.
The plot begins when Shaggy and Daphne spend the summer vacation at Camp Ruby-Spears where they were involved in a terrible case concerning a mysterious lost Great Dane puppy—who was actually the witness of a supernatural murder. Helped by Velma, a local resident that thinks logically and skeptically, and also by Fred, a new but handsome and still mysterious kid, they try to uncover the truth behind this case. And from here, the adventures that formed the legendary Mystery Inc. gang began!
This ambitious project by Warner Bros. Television along with Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio. Such well-known names as Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, and Jeff Pinkner also participated as the executive producers.
“Mystery Inc. is back in business. We don't necessarily want to just re-tell the same stories in the same tone that have been going on for so long, but it's about how you do something different that still resonates the essence of what Scooby-Doo is to the fans for over 50 years,” says Peter Friedlander, VP scripted series at Netflix expressing his excitement about the project.
Meanwhile, so far Netflix still keeps the list of the cast secret that will star in the roles of these iconic characters. Also, the release date is yet to be announced but the fan anticipation is already palpable.
This is not the first time that Scooby-Doo has been made into live-action. The movie Scooby-Doo (2002) with Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini in the cast was a great success at the box office and earned over $250 million. However, this is the first time Scooby-Doo is transformed into a full live-action series - it seems that there will be a different atmosphere from the previous adaptations.
Will this series be like CGI? Will there be horror elements that are much stronger? We will just have to wait and see what Netflix has cook for us!
