Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso – He is a young boy who just moved to California. The boy from Gardner the karate master Mr. Miyagi.
Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi – A fatherly karate master who without annoying laureate father figures assumes the role of Daniel's mentor.
William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence – The main antagonist and the one who is known to torment Daniel is a student of Cobra Kai as well as Daniel’s rival.
Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills – She used to be the girlfriend of Johnny but now she is with Daniel. tempered and fascinated by Johnny she is only able to free her anger the moment they separate.
Martin Kove as John Kreese – The doyen of the Cobra Kai, master of the united sensei of the franchise is the Cobra Kai sensei.
Randee Heller as Lucille LaRusso – The single mother with an open mind her deeds and parental supports win the audience's hearts.


A young boy, Daniel LaRusso, who has recently shifted to California, is severely harassed by Johnny Lawrence and his Cobra Kai buddies because of his association with Johnny's ex-girlfriend, Ali Mills. After being injured in a capricious attack by Daniel, the peaceful and a quite masterful Russian karate Mofo, Mr. Miyagi, who eventually heals him, intervenes in help. He then introduces John Kreese to the plan by which Johnny would exhibit his skill at the All Valley Karate Tournament to make Daniel confront Johnny.

While teaching Daniel, Mr. Miyagi supports his unique ways of conveying that karate is not only physical combat but it teaches discipline and balance too.  

Contrary to predictions, Daniel makes it to the tournament finals, despite Kreese ordering his students to try and incapacitate him. In the ultimate showdown, Johnny, unhappily following Kreese's unscrupulous orders, targets Daniel's injured leg. However, Daniel is determined and withstands.

Daniel uses the crane kick and vanquishes Johnny, therefore winning the championship title. In a graceful acceptance of defeat, Johnny hands over the trophy to Daniel. Meanwhile, Mr. Miyagi watches with pride, satisfied that Daniel has indeed transformed into a genuine martial artist.

Following the tournament, Miyagi saves Johnny from Kreese's anger, then he learns that his father is in a serious state. After that, both Miyagi and Daniel go to Okinawa, Japan, where Miyagi comes back to his old flame Yukie, while also dealing with his old enemy, Sato, who is challenging him to a deadly duel. While at the same time, Daniel gets involved with Kumiko and also offends Sato's nephew, Chozen Toguchi, who is a useless karate student. Later the situation worsens as a typhoon hits the area, Sato gets trapped by some wreckage. Miyagi frees Sato, and this act resolves the long ongoing feud between them and Chozen is cast away by his father.

While at the festival, Chozen steals Kumiko and forces Daniel into a fight for life. With the drum technique from Miyagi, Daniel beats Chozen and wins the fight. In the meantime, Daniel refuses Chozen’s desperate plea for him to kill him, instead, he shows mercy to him, which reflects Miyagi’s saying that the key aspect of karate is dignity and not vengeance. With Sato now being their ally, Daniel and Miyagi leave Okinawa a close-knit friend crew and are now even more related to Miyagi's karate.

With Cobra Kai in ruins, John Kreese turns to his wealthy war comrade Terry Silver, who devises a plan to humiliate Daniel and re-establish Cobra Kai. Silver hires Mike Barnes, a ruthless karate fighter, to force Daniel into defending his title at the All Valley Tournament. Meanwhile, Daniel and Miyagi return to find their apartment complex demolished, leaving Miyagi unemployed. Daniel uses his college savings to open a bonsai shop with Miyagi but is soon harassed by Barnes and Silver’s goons. Under Silver's influence, Daniel begins training with him, where he learns aggression and becomes distant from his old master, Miyagi. 

Soon, Daniel sees through Silver's cunning ploy and attempts to withdraw from the tournament. However, he falls into a surprise attack by Silver, Barnes, and Kreese. Miyagi appears and effortlessly overcomes the trio, agreeing afterwards to coach Daniel. During the tournament, Barnes positions himself prominently by using a mix of lawful and unlawful hits. Daniel, in the decisive final round, refocuses, employs kata techniques, and scores the winning point. Silver's conspiracy crumbles, leading to Cobra Kai's prohibition. In the end, Daniel reestablishes that real karate is built on inner strength, not on savage force.

Julie has grappled with anger since her mom and dad died, and she has been in constant conflict with her grandmother. She has also experienced bullying and ostracism from her peers particularly from Ned Randall and the Alpha Elite, whose leader is Colonel Dugan, the AIT discipline group, a violent and aggressive one. As a cure her guardian angel takes her to the Buddhist monastery and after intensive engrossing training the youthful girl is able to find balance, patience, and discipline all of this.

While coming back to her house, Julie> was successful in rescuing her impaired hawk Angel and this was a clear representation of emotional growth. Meanwhile, Ned and the Alpha Elite severely beat Eric McGowen, her friend, but Julie intervenes. She defeats Ned in a fair fight, proving her progress. When Dugan tries to continue the violence, Miyagi easily bests him, leading the Alpha Elite to abandon their leader. The film ends with Julie releasing Angel, fully embracing the philosophy that karate is about self-control and respect, not aggression.
