Info in Movie News | Senior South Korean director, Yeon Sang-ho, once again is directing a new zombie movie project titled Gunche. The film has been a hot topic in the film industry as it's termed as the climax of the universe he has built through Train to Busan (2016) and Peninsula (2020). Along with his abundant experience in the thriller and horror genres, Yeon aims to bring fresh elements into the survival story in a world afflicted by a zombie outbreak.

As reported by Deadline, one of the main attractions of Gunche is its star-studded cast. Almost after a lapse of ten years, the film stars Jun Ji-hyun for the first time, the last movie she acted in was Assassination (2015). Jun has gained popularity mainly for the roles she played in the series My Love from the Star and Kingdom: Ashin of the North. In the film, she is cast against Ji Chang-wook (The Worst of Evil), Go Soo (Missing), and Koo Kyo-hwan (D.P.). Of their numerous good performances, it gives us the chance of a good one being it that they are going to be for the first time to throw their weight in this film.

Regarding the title, Gunche is a term in Korean language which translates to "colony" in a biological context. However, there is no official information about its international title yet. The film will be distributed by Showbox and is slated for release next year.

In its official statement, Showbox describes Gunche as "the culmination of Yeon Sang-ho's universe", indicating that the movie may be associated with the world of Train to Busan. Whether Gunche will continue the existing story or present a completely new concept still remains a mystery eagerly awaited by fans of this genre.

Yeon Sang-ho himself, meanwhile, is a guy who has been known regarded as a person who is skillful at taming horror, thriller, and dystopian-themed stories. In addition to Train to Busan, he also directed its prequel, Seoul Station (2016), and other animated films of gloom like The King of Pigs (2011). He has also embarked on the show production business where he has been very successful with projects like Hellbound and Parasyte: The Grey on Netflix.

This year, Yeon will also release a thriller film named Revelations, set to premiere on Netflix on 21st March. The film, executive produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, narrates a collaborative investigation between a priest and detective into a missing persons case. Along with Gunche and Revelations, Yeon is also gearing up to release The Ugly, a film adaptation of his 2018 graphic novel.

Horror cinema Gunche made by Yeon Sang-ho should be a very challenging project especially after Train to Busan that grossed over $98 million, which was made at a budget of $8million. A movie with a great script, a strong atmosphere, and good character developments such as this film has, will have a chance of being one among the biggest zombie movies in the future. Those who like scary and thrilling stories are really curious to see what Yeon Sang-ho will do to make the new and exciting story of the zombie movie different from the last one.
