David Corenswet is Ready to Be the New Superman: James Gunn Reveals Why He’s the Fit One

Info in Movie News | The new Superman movie is getting closer, and David Corenswet is set to don the iconic red cape. With less than 100 days until the movie’s release, director James Gunn has shared the key reason why Corenswet was the best choice to take over the role from Henry Cavill.

According to Collider, in an interview with Time Magazine, Gunn revealed that the number one requirement for playing Superman was having the right attitude on set. "They had to treat everyone with kindness and respect," Gunn explained. "I’ve seen sets that cater too much to an actor’s or director’s ego, and that’s just not something that would happen with David. He is Superman, even in his nerdiness. He listens to old jazz standards—that’s just what he does on a regular basis. Like Superman, he’s a simple man in complicated times."

Corenswet has already shared the screen with big names in Hollywood, starring in Twisters alongside Glen Powell and Pearl with Mia Goth. But this time, he takes center stage in Superman, which boasts one of the most impressive superhero movie casts to date. He’ll be joined by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The movie also features Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

After Superman, Peacemaker Season 2 is the next big DCU project set to premiere in August with John Cena returning as Christopher Smith. Other confirmed DC projects include Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock, and Clayface, which will be directed by James Watkins. DC projects Supergirl is already halfway in production, while filming for an upcoming Max original series, Lanterns, which starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, has also begun.

This Superman movie is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. For DC fans, this steps the beginning of an exciting new era under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s vision.
