Info in Movie News | With Star Wars gearing up for its next big chapter, including Daisy Ridley’s confirmed return as Rey and a week of announcements at Star Wars Celebration Japan, one name that’s quietly popping back into the conversation is Rose Tico. And Kelly Marie Tran, who brought her to life, has made it crystal clear, she’d suit up again in a heartbeat.
According to Collider, Tran recently spoke about her Star Wars experience while promoting her new film The Wedding Banquet, set for release on April 18. “I have so much love and gratitude for that universe,” she shared. “Lily [Gladstone] and I have talked about it, she’s a huge Star Wars fan too. I still am. That world has such a warm place in my heart.”
Originally, Rose Tico made her appearance debut in 2017’s The Last Jedi as a mechanic who stood by the Resistance in the struggle. Although the character was developed meaningfully beside Finn, her virtual time was decreased substantially in The Rise of Skywalker, causing a negative reaction among her fans, who had found the courage of the character inspiring and marginalization quite painful, also in view of the online harassment that Tran experienced.
Nevertheless, in the past couple of years, the sequel trilogy has been experienced a renaissance, a trend similar to that of the Anakin’s prequels and Hayden Christensen. For many fans, Rose is finally getting her due.
Outside of Star Wars, Tran has been busy carving out a varied career. She voiced the title role in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, starred in the indie horror Control Freak, and appeared in the SXSW dramedy Forge. Coming up, she’ll star in Rock Springs, a horror film opposite Benedict Wong, and of course, The Wedding Banquet.
With Star Wars Celebration just around the corner, new doors might open, and maybe one of them will lead Rose Tico back to the Resistance.
