Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond across four films from GoldenEye to Die Another Day, has voiced his support for Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a worthy successor. And unlike most, Brosnan’s opinion comes with some real history behind it.
He actually worked with Taylor-Johnson years ago, casting the young actor in the 2009 indie drama The Greatest, which Brosnan also helped produce. “He came onto the set and just owned the space with passion and energy,” Brosnan recalled. “If he wants it, and if he gets it, I think he’d be great.” With Taylor-Johnson already being heavily rumored as the front-runner for the role, Brosnan’s endorsement feels like more than just polite praise—it sounds personal.
But while he's supportive of the Bond future, Brosnan isn’t stuck in his spy days. Right now, he’s front and center in MobLand, a gritty crime drama on Paramount+ created by Guy Ritchie. In the series, Brosnan plays Conrad Harrigan, a ruthless but calculated Irish mob boss caught in a turf war with a rival London crime family. It’s a far cry from the polished world of MI6, and that’s exactly the point—he’s showing a different kind of power now.
Sharing the screen with Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy, Brosnan leads the series with a sharp mix of authority and vulnerability. Interestingly, despite working together closely, Brosnan said he and Hardy barely spoke off-camera. “Maybe two hours of conversation over five months,” he said, though he added that Hardy reminded him of his own son—intense, passionate, and kind-hearted. Hardy also returned the respect, calling Brosnan “a consummate pro” and “a lovely man to work with.”
Meanwhile, the James Bond franchise itself is undergoing a major shift. After Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, the future of 007 is now in the hands of Amazon MGM Studios, working alongside longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Brosnan’s take on it is short and sweet: “I wish them well. It’s a character people love, and I’m sure they’ll take care of him.”
