Info in Movie News | Ever since Marvel dropped the title Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans have been deep in speculation mode—especially with the potential for new characters to join the cast. And while a lot of names have been thrown into the rumor mill, one big one stands out: Sadie Sink.
The Stranger Things star is officially set to join Tom Holland in the next Spider-Man movie, and that news alone has kicked speculation into overdrive. Sadie’s already proven she can deliver intense, emotional, and bold performances—qualities that would make her a strong addition to the MCU.
Before the movie’s title was revealed, fans had a whole list of theories about who Sadie might be playing. Some thought she could be a young Jean Grey, or maybe a fresh take on Gwen Stacy. Others pitched Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat, or even Angelica Jones (Firestar). But once Brand New Day was confirmed, things started to narrow down. And now, two names keep rising to the top: Carlie Cooper and Lily Hollister (Menace).
So, What Is Brand New Day in the Comics?
A quick origin note: In comics, Brand New Day begins after One More Day—a storyline that was quite controversial due to Peter Parker making a deal with Mephisto to save the life of Aunt May by deleting his marriage to Mary Jane. Wild, right? As a result, Peter’s life gets totally reset. Nobody remembers his identity, his relationship with MJ is wiped, and he’s back to square one—broke, single, and juggling his superhero life with a ton of personal drama.
This arc introduced a bunch of new characters, including Carlie Cooper (his new love interest) and Lily Hollister, who eventually becomes the villain known as Menace. It also gave us villains like Mister Negative and brought Norman Osborn back into the picture.
Given where Peter is in the MCU right now—post-No Way Home, totally off the grid with everyone’s memories of him erased—it makes a lot of sense that Brand New Day would be the vibe going forward. New chapter, new people, new problems.
Carlie Cooper – Peter’s New Love Interest?
Carlie Cooper was one of the standout new faces from Brand New Day. She’s a forensic cop, super smart, super independent, and just a great foil to Peter’s chaotic life. After losing MJ and Ned from his world, Peter’s more alone than ever. Introducing someone like Carlie could bring something fresh—and maybe even grounded—into his life.
Sadie Sink would absolutely kill it in a role like this. She’s got the grit and emotional depth to play a character who isn’t just there to fall in love with Peter, but someone with her own purpose. In the comics, Carlie even helps investigate the “Spider-Tracer Killer” case—where Spider-Man is being framed for murder. So yeah, she’s not just a background love interest. She matters.
With Tom Holland’s Peter stepping into a more mature phase of life, pairing him with someone like Carlie (and someone like Sadie playing her) could be a great move for both the story and the character growth.
Lily Hollister / Menace – A Dangerous New Villain?
But what if Marvel’s going in the other direction—and casting Sadie as a villain?
Enter Lily Hollister. In the comics, she’s a politician’s daughter and Harry Osborn’s girlfriend, but she ends up stumbling upon the Goblin formula and becomes Menace, a chaotic and powerful foe with serious Green Goblin energy.
What makes Lily/ Menace so compelling is that she’s not just “evil for evil’s sake.” She’s got layers—privilege, secrecy, ambition, danger—and Sadie could bring all of that to the screen. If Marvel wants to add a young, complex villain to Peter’s life, Lily is a top-tier pick.
And with Sony pushing forward with darker characters like Kraven and potentially teasing the return of Norman Osborn, the timing for Menace couldn’t be better.
Casting Rumors and What’s Next
Rumor also has it that Marvel and Sony are on the lookout for a couple of major female roles, with one being a probable girlfriend of Peter and the other a main female villain. Along with Sadie Sink, only last month there were names such as Sydney Sweeney and Anya Taylor-Joy thrown around as possible candidates. Alongside Sadie Sink, other names like Sydney Sweeney and Anya Taylor-Joy have been rumored to be in the mix. But nothing’s been confirmed yet.
If Sadie really is locked in, the question becomes: is she going to be fighting alongside Peter, or against him? Either way, she’s got the range to pull off either kind of role—and make it unforgettable.
Whether she ends up playing Carlie Cooper, Lily Hollister, or someone totally unexpected, Sadie Sink joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a big deal. Her involvement hints that Marvel isn’t playing it safe with this next phase of Peter’s story—they’re evolving it.
So, what do you think? Should Sadie be Peter’s new partner-in-crime-solving? Or should she become his next big threat?
We’ll have to wait for Marvel’s official word—but either way, this casting has us seriously hyped.
