Info in Movie News | Rumor Chris Evans, ex Captain America's Steve Roger, set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday break after Evans debunked rumors that he would appear in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe project. "That's not true," Evans said as quoted by The Playlist.
Alongside Evans clarification, Anthony Mackie is also confirmed to reprise his role as Captain America, which he inherited from Evans in Avengers: Endgame and will continue in the new film Captain America: Brave New World.
After stepping down from his iconic role as Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame, when he passed the shield to his loyal friend and partner, Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon, Evans' portrayal of Steve Rogers seemed to have reached a conclusion. However, he made a brief return to the MCU by reprising his role as Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four in the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine 2024.
While speculation about Evans' return to the MCU had been circulating for some time, it appeared unlikely given that his Steve Rogers character is now depicted as an elderly man. This changed, however, with the recent news that Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man and sacrificed his life in Avengers: Endgame, will also return as a variant of Tony Stark, taking on the role of Doctor Doom in the same film. This development opens the door for Evans’ return to the Russo Brothers' universe.
But the rumor who confirmed, that Mackie will continue as Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame, starring in Captain America: Brave New World and Marvel’s Multiverse Saga finale of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027.
With Mackie taking on the Captain America mantle and Evans' role as Johnny Storm in the latest Deadpool film, it raises curiosity about the character that Evans will portray. The new Fantastic Four film will feature Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who are also expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Looking at the Fantastic Four cast lineup, there is no mention of Chris Evans as the Human Torch. If indeed he rejoins and assembles with the MCU again, there is one character that could potentially be introduced in the MCU's future, same like Robert Downey Jr. Comeback as villain.
Although Chris Evans stated 'retired' when questioned by Mackie, it does not preclude the possibility that he may officially rejoin the MCU in the future. Please note that this is speculation from the Info in Movie Team editorial. However, it would be better to await future updates about this matter from Marvel.
